Reformer Pilates, ceremonial matcha, and the spots worth building your day around
Frankfurt surprises. Behind the banking towers and business hotels lies a quietly thriving wellness scene — boutique reformer studios in Nordend, ceremonial matcha bars in the city centre, and a community that takes intentional living seriously.
This is where it all started for The Matcha Pilates Club. Frankfurt is home, and after years of exploring its studios and cafés, I can say with confidence: this city has everything you need for a full wellness day — and then some.
Pilatix is where I'd send anyone visiting Frankfurt for the first time. Founded by Anne, the studio has a warmth that's rare — strong women supporting each other, classes that challenge without pressure, and instructors who bring their own personality while staying true to the Pilatix style. Book in advance; it fills quickly.
July Baby Pilates in Nordend feels like Brooklyn transplanted to Frankfurt — a movement space, health bar, and concept store in one. The classes are small and well-taught, and the health bar is worth staying for after. Also worth exploring: Lona Pilates Club in Ostend for stylish interiors and dynamic sequences, Pilates Twentyfour for the ceiling mirrors (yes, really — they change everything), and Ayur Pilates near Oeder Weg for controlled, precise full-body work.
For yoga, Balance Yoga City is Frankfurt's most complete wellness destination: over 900 square meters, three studios, a Finnish sauna, nearly 100 classes a week, and a vegetarian deli that makes staying for lunch an easy decision.
2b Coffee Studio is my go-to in the city centre. Smooth matcha, calm energy, pastel blue terrace seating outside — especially lovely on warm days. OddRealm Tea in Nordend is for the ceremonial-grade purists: intimate, warm, run with genuine passion. Bamboo whisks on the counter, vinyl records by the window.
Vitamin B serves premium Japanese matcha hand-whisked with love — their signature drinks topped with dragonfruit powder are as beautiful as they are delicious. Cosmic is the bold choice: all-red everything, loud and confident, and somehow the matcha tastes even better for it. Kioskie is for the detail-lovers — ceramic cups, fresh flowers, marble surfaces, and exceptional coffee.
For a post-class ritual, Balance Deli (attached to Balance Yoga) is a bright, plant-filled space with indoor trees and a mostly vegan menu. The matcha latte is worth the detour on its own.
On Thursdays and Saturdays, the Farmers Market at Konstablerwache is the best way to start a morning. Local producers, seasonal vegetables, artisan bread, and flower stalls overflowing with tulips and dahlias. Arrive early, bring a canvas bag, and pair it with a pre-class matcha ritual.
Book Pilates classes at least 24–48 hours in advance — the best studios fill quickly. Early morning classes followed by a post-class matcha ritual is the Frankfurt wellness formula. Nordend and Ostend are the neighborhoods to explore — both walkable, both full of good spots. Balance Yoga is ideal for lunch-break classes if you're in the city centre.
